December 20th is the release date for the new movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. If you are an avid Star Wars fan, then you may be anxiously awaiting this release day just like me! Whether you are looking forward to bringing your kids along, or you only plan on going with a group of friends, it’s probably been many years since the last time you watched some of the Star Wars movies.
Compared to other well-known series, the Star Wars films release dates are a little bit on the unconventional side of things. The movies were released in more of the middle of the story rather than starting at the very beginning. Over the years, the movies keep coming out with new twists and turns and jump forward and backward through time. These films alternate between the past and the present, which can make the whole movie watching experience difficult.
If you want to plan the ultimate Star Wars movie marathon, here is an in-depth guide that will take you from the order to watch them in and what kind of dish to serve for each movie you watch in the series!
What order to watch the movies
There are a lot of Star Wars movies out there, but the best way to watch them in to get the timeline set is to watch them in order chronologically. This is especially important if you are watching with people who haven’t seen any of the movies yet!
Here is the order you should watch them in:
- Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace
- Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones
- Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
- Solo: A Star Wars Story
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
- Star Wars aka Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope
- The Empire Strikes Back
- Return of the Jedi
- The Mandalorian (optional)
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Star Wars: The Last Jedi
- The Rise of Skywalker

Now that you have your order list for the movies, it’s time to take your movie night up a notch! To make it easier, I’ve kept the order of the movies the same, so you can easily refer back to this list when you’re ready to watch the next!
